TIDY Northern Ireland and Translink have joined forces to employ a National Officer who will be working to improve the Local Environmental Quality (LEQ) standards of Translink's property for three years (starting November 2005).
With the aim to satisfy the objectives of Translink's Environmental Plan, this partnership will mainly be focusing on improving the visual appearance of the trains, buses, stations, bus stops and train halts. The work is divided into four main areas;
- Local Environmental Quality Surveying (Observational, behavioural and attitudinal) to identify issues and assess the impact of the partnership;
- Campaigning (within Translink and to the public) to resolve issues identified during the local environmental quality surveys;
- Undertaking environmental community work with residential areas along main train and bus routes to enable them to take responsibility for their local environment; and
- Educational activities to teach children to respect the environment along transportation routes and to develop activities to help re-enforce this message.
The partnership between TIDY Northern Ireland and Translink is unique and there has been great interest of the success of this partnership from other organisations throughout the UK.
