Thank you for your interest in the Eco-Schools Programme. By following the programme, your school will become a more stimulating place in which to learn and you will reduce the environmental impact of the whole school on the community.
Once registered your school will be part of an international group of schools working towards education for sustainable development and a better quality of life for local and global communities.
As a further measure of its success the Eco-Schools programme has been given the backing of the United Nations who have endorsed the programme as UN model of good practice. Twenty-five countries are now part of the programme, including most of Europe and South Africa. It has also been include in Northern Ireland's sustainable development strategy (2006) as a target that, 'by 2009, 25% of Northern Ireland schools to have achieved Eco-Schools accreditation'.
Eco-Schools in Northern Ireland is working closely with a number of education and environmental organisations to help deliver the programme. All five Education and Library Boards are involved in the programme as are the majority of the 26 local councils. TIDY NI could not successfully deliver the programme without the help of these organisations. If you are a school in the programme need any assistance with any of the topics please contact the partners listed under the topic headings. If you need general advice on the programme please contact the Eco-Schools Office on info@eco-schoolsni.orgor phone 028 9073 6920.
