Anti Car Litter Campaign

Down Car Litter PosterTIDY Northern Ireland has run two campaigns focusing on this issue. The need for continued campaigning on this source of litter follows on from the findings in the 2004 Town Centre Survey that highlighted that 26% of the litter recorded in some towns that were surveyed could be attributed to car litter.

A car sticker campaign was run in 2001 featuring the slogan 'Have you dropped one?; targeting 'white van man' driver. This was reasonable successful with 18% of respondents to being questioned saying they had seen the stickers. In general the respondents received the car sticker campaign positively.

The more recent campaigns, promoted in conjunction with Lisburn City Council reduced the amount of litter found on the four streets featured in the campaign by 70%. Other more recent campaigns were run Carrickfergus and Downpatrick. All were targeted campaigns aimed at specific areas. they proved that a clear message targeted at the correct media a campaign can have a considerable amount of success.

TIDY Northern Ireland has replicated this campaign a number of times with similarly positive results.
