  • TIDY NI Supporting Rethink Waste
    TIDY Northern Ireland supports the new Rethink Waste campaign to raise awareness and understanding of waste prevention and recycling issues. The aim is to give people tangible, practical tips for action in support of being responsible and playing their aprt in cuttin g down the amount of waste we produce. The campaign is running advertisements on TV, radio, newspapers, buses and billboards. A waste calculator is available at www.rethinkwasteni.org. The caluclator challenges users attitudes to waste prevention, reducing, reusing and recycling in a relaxed and fun way through answering ten questions focused on key waste streams. The calculator adn other elements are also available on the Rethink Waste Facebook page

  • 2010 Litter Summit draws people from across Northern Ireland and beyond
    Representatives from councils and businesses across Northern Ireland, and speakers from as far as the USA gathered in Craigavon Civic Centre on Thursday 11th November 2010 to attend the second Northern Ireland Litter Summit organised by TIDY Northern Ireland. Delegates were able to discuss how to tackle our environmental crime crisis with some of the most experienced specialists from Texas, England and here in Northern Ireland.

Legal Seminar - Flytipping, Flyposting & Graffiti

Wednesday 5 May 2010

This full-day seminar will focus on making use of current legislation to tackle fly-posting, graffiti and (small scale) fly-tipping. The seminar will be led by David Armstrong of Mallard Consultancy Ltd, the legal speaker at TIDY Northern Ireland's Litter Summit in October 2009. David is acknowledged as a leading national authority on measures and tactics to combat environmental crime and nuisance. His experience of the Clean Neighbourhoods Act in England and Wales will also be of interest, as similar legislation is being developed for Northern Ireland.

Legal Seminar - Fixed Penalty Notices

This seminar covers all aspects of issuing Fixed Penalty Notices, following the high levels of interest generated at the TIDY Northern Ireland Litter Summit in October 2009. The seminar leader was the legal speaker at the Summit, David Armstrong of Mallard Consultancy Ltd. A course outline is available for download at the bottom of this page.

Eco-Schools Assessor Training

TIDY NI holds one-day training sessions for anyone interested in becoming a volunteer Eco-Schools Green Flag Assessor. The training covers all aspects of the Eco-Schools programme and equips participants with the knowledge and skills to assess schools against the criteria set down for the international Green Flag standard. The day also includes a mock assessment of a local school. A course outline is available at the bottom of this page.

Training For Surveying

TIDY Northern Ireland offers training courses to help you assess both how effective your cleansing standards are, as well as ones that concentrate on identifying the littering habits of residents of your borough.

Grading Training (For Supervisors and Cleansing Operatives)

A popular training course, which can be adapted for various grades/scales, helps you to meet required cleansing standards as stipulated in the Litter (Northern Ireland) Order 1994 and its associated Code of Practice on Litter. This short course teaches cleansing operatives about the different cleansing grades and how to identify them. This course can also be adapted for supervisors to help them monitor and guide cleansing operatives in maintaining a clean, safe and pleasant environment.

TIDY Campaigns

TIDY Northern Ireland runs courses that help you develop and run campaigns to reduce the impacts of littering. This course includes information on market research, identifying the audience, the important of behavioural changing advertising, as well as how to monitor and evaluate the success of your campaign. This course can be used in conjunction with pre-existing TIDY Northern Ireland campaigns that you may wish to replicate in your area.

TIDY Business

This course consists of training assessors as part of the TIDY Business Standards Scheme. Candidates are trained how to audit businesses using a pre-determined list of criteria concerning both legislation and enhanced townscape features.

TIDY Communities

This is a community empowerment-training course. Training is given to Action Teams from communities to teach them how to assess their own environment and identify existing problems. It teaches them how to use this information to develop action plans and monitor their implementation. The outcome of this training leads to residents taking more responsibility for their communities as well as improvements to local environmental quality.
